Engelberth Construction reconfigured a former 4,600 sf vacant birthing center in the East Wing of Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital into a new Surgical Short Stay Unit. Designed by E4H-Environments for Health Architecture, the space was gutted and transformed into ten (10) private pre- and post- operative patient rooms each with it’s own private bathroom. Work included associated staff support areas such as a nourishment station, medication and clean storage rooms, soiled material holding room and staff work stations. Rounding out the project were upgrades to the existing HVAC, electrical and fire protection systems.
The new Surgical Stay Unit’s primary focus is to provide high quality care focused on the unique needs of those undergoing total joint replacements and select neurospine patients, of whom require less than twenty-four hours of on site care.
