Project Overview
Technological advances in DNA testing, along with the need to work in a larger, more modern space, prompted the State of Vermont to build a new $12.8 million Vermont Forensic Laboratory (VFL) addition to the existing Vermont Public Safety building in the Waterbury State Office Complex. Engelberth Construction completed the new 34,000 square foot, two-story state-of-the-art forensics crime lab building, which included a rooftop mechanical penthouse, a new shared entrance lobby, and a shelled space over the new entrance for a future 1,080 sf Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Although not LEED rate, the challenging project was designed and built to advanced building and high performance standards, and remained operational during construction.
