Project Overview
The historic preservation and addition to the former Starr Library consisted of demolishing two large sections of the existing building, renovating the historic Starr Library portion and constructing two large wings. The newly constructed wings created much needed office and flexible-use teaching and technical spaces including 52 faculty offices, six classrooms and a 65 seat state-of-the-art film theater.
The preserved space has been transformed into a reading/study area and site for poetry and literary readings. As part of Middlebury College’s plan to build green, several energy efficient materials and systems were part of the project, especially in the mechanical and electrical systems with carbon dioxide sensors and on demand hot water heaters being installed.
