City of KeeneKeene Public Library Expansion/Renovation
Project At A Glance
Project Overview
The renovations and expansion of the Keene Public Library has transformed the facility into a twenty-first century library and community center, focused on learning and creative opportunities.
The Annex, a former Masonic Temple and historical structure donated to the City of Keene, had significant renovations to bring it up to code, including the addition of an elevator, ramps, stairways and additional bathrooms. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were also updated to meet today’s standards and needs for the future. The Annex contains large and small sized flexible meeting spaces, a performing arts space, TV studio, office space, makerspace and renovated kitchen. The exterior walls, windows and roof were restored.
Renovations to the existing Library included the circulation, reference and staff areas, a dedicated teen space, HVAC upgrades and renovated basement storage area.
A new atrium was built connecting the Annex and the Library, providing a light-filled entrance and gathering spot.
As it stands, the Keene Public Library is the largest library in New Hampshire at over 70,000 sf.
