Project Overview
Nestled in the rural Northeast Kingdom town of Greensboro, Vermont, sits the new Highland Center for the Arts (HCA). More than just a theater, the HCA is a unique cultural venue for the arts, entertainment, education and local community. The 26,400 square foot facility features a 250 seat state-of-the-art performance theater in-the-round is modeled after Shakespeare’s Globe Theater in London, but on a smaller scale, and is open year round. It features LED theatrical lighting, cutting edge sound systems and acoustics, and multiple thrust stage configurations capable of hosting theater, music, film and fine arts. In addition, the facility has a smaller performance space that can seat 100 and is suitable for intimate gatherings, rehearsals and events. The lobby, naturally lit with a wall of windows, doubles as an art exhibition space. The HCA also includes a full-service 40 seat cafe, dressing rooms, storage rooms, an administrative suite and mechanical room. The center’s renewable energy system heats and cools the building using a geothermal system with ground source heat pumps throughout the year.
