Dartmouth CollegeThompson Arena Upgrades
Project At A Glance
Project Overview
Thompson Arena, home of the Big Green men’s and women’s hockey teams underwent renovations to increase the lifespan of the facility, take advantage of new technology and to improve energy efficiency. The most visible aspect of the renovation is the installation of a new set of dasher boards and glass that has enhanced player safety and improved spectator viewing. New modern equipment, including a complete replacement of the refrigeration system, new humidity controls, hvac, lighting controls, electrical gear and sprinkler systems were all installed. The improved ice refrigeration system allows for more efficient cooling of the cement slab on which the playing surface is constructed, and the new dehumidification system enhances spectator comfort as the arena’s air temperature can now be raised to 60 degrees without affecting the quality of the ice.
