Dartmouth College1953 Dining Commons
Project At A Glance
Project Overview
As the primary dining facility at Dartmouth College with eight made-to-order, state of the art serving stations and a new kitchen, the renovated ’53 Commons now provides seating for 1,000 students, faculty and staff and is fully handicap accessible. Highlights include a “Fire and Ice” station where students can watch their food being prepared through transparent panels and updated décor and seating options. Equipped with new windows and an energy-efficient heating and refrigeration system, the well insulated building will save the college approximately $330k per year.
In addition to the dining improvements, the basement level was transformed into a new social space for students to gather for dances, concerts, meetings, or just to socialize. Due to detailed planning, the dining facility remained in full operation throughout the fourteen month construction period.
