Wednesday, February 18th marked a new beginning for the King Street Center community with a grand re-opening celebration. Vicky Smith, the center’s executive director welcomed the hundreds of guests including families, state and city officials, building and design team members and others from the community.Serving 500 children and families, the King Street Center now has twice the amount of space to provide preschool and after school care for children as well as other programs and activities.Engelberth stripped and partially demolished the old building at 87 King Street and added a basement and 2-story addition allowing for new classrooms, an art studio, tutoring space, dining room, meeting/mixed-use space, and a rooftop play area. The 22,000 sf facility’s gymnasium and other spaces were revamped bringing it all together.The project took a year to complete and was designed by TruexCullins.
