Engelberth is pleased to announce that the recently completed Heritage Aviation Facility has been awarded LEED® Gold established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
The new $18.5 Million Heritage Aviation facility, located at Burlington International Airport, provides full FBO maintenance and fueling services out of the new 79,000 sf two-story building. The project included the complete renovation of an existing 60,000 sf hangar and a 25’-wide addition to create a first class facility for pilots and crew members while they wait for their aircraft to be serviced. Amenities include a reception area, pilots lounge, quiet rooms, weather and briefing areas, cinema, fitness center, conference rooms, a dining facility and observation deck.
Heritage Aviation achieved LEED certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. Multiple large-format skylights and two-story atrium windows introduce an abundance of natural sunlight into the building. Other sustainable features of the project include photovoltaic panels, a wind turbine, permeable concrete parking lot, rainwater collection and reuse, and one of the largest green roofs in New England. By using less energy and water, this facility saves money; reduces greenhouse gas emissions; and contributes to a healthier environment.
Designed by Truex Cullins Architects, the hangar is the first in the nation to be LEED certified, and is the recipient of the 2010 Efficiency Vermont Merit Award for new construction/renovation over 20,000 sf, and the 2010 Burlington Business Association’s Hertzel Pasackow Award.
