Green Mountain Valley School Dedicates New Racing Performance Center
Waitsfield, VT– Hundreds of people gathered Sunday, September 28th, to witness the dedication of a new, 33,000 sf Racing Performance Center at the Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS). The $10 million facility is the first of its kind in the east, modeled after the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s Center of Excellence in Park City, UT. It fuses high-performance athletic facilities with the world’s most advanced ski tuning, expert physical training, video analysis, comprehensive physical therapy, and all coaches’ offices in one central location.
President and CEO of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), Tiger Shaw, spoke at the event. “The Racing Performance Center is physical proof of GMVS’s commitment to excellence and achievement,” said Shaw. “USSA congratulates GMVS, knowing that the Racing Performance Center and GMVS will continue producing world-class athletes that make a difference. They bring home the gold, lead our youth by example, and strengthen our sports and programs nationwide.”
Dave Gavett, GMVS Headmaster, gave a brief dedication speech before inviting the hundreds of visitors to take guided tours of the new facility. Parents, staff, and community members walked through the building and interacted with expert coaches, ski technicians, and athletic trainers. They learned about the facility’s high quality building materials, energy-efficiency, equipment, workout programs, and the variety of high-level training options available to the GMVS student-athletes.
“GMVS has always aimed to provide our athletes with the best platform for success, but a facility like this really elevates the level of performance that we can achieve. We owe a very sincere and heartfelt thank you to our donors and to the huge team of people that helped make this vision a reality,” said Gavett. He went on to thank the hundreds of workers, and especially Engelberth Construction, who did their finest work to complete the project on budget and ahead of schedule.
The Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) is a world-class ski academy with alpine training facilities at Sugarbush Resort and multiple Nordic training facilities throughout the area. The academy offers a full academic curriculum, theater program, student clubs, and spring and fall sports. This year, GMVS has two graduates on the US Ski Team, one on the British Team, and one on the Irish Team.
